Katy's biggest party is back – and it kicks off with a parade
Fall in Katy officially arrives when the Rice Harvest Festival rolls around, and the 45th annual edition is nearly here. The best part? You don't have to wait for festival weekend – the beloved parade steps off first.
Here's what to know:
Parade: Saturday, Oct. 3, 9–10 a.m. through downtown Katy – floats, local groups, and neighbors packing the streets.
Festival: Saturday, Oct. 10 (10 a.m.–10 p.m.) and Sunday, Oct. 11 (noon–6 p.m.) at Historic Town Square by City Hall.
What's inside: 100+ vendors, food trucks, a carnival, the "Agventure" rice-heritage area, a toddler zone, and a beer garden.
Tickets: $15 for adults, free for kids 12 and under – and that covers the live concerts, too.
It's for a good cause: proceeds fund Rotary Club of Katy scholarships and local charities, which added up to more than $100,000 in scholarships last year alone.
Whether you catch the parade, the festival, or both, this is the weekend Katy shows off its rice-farming roots in the best way possible.

City Updates
Six new spots to eat, shop, and (literally) let off steam at Katy Mills
Katy Mills isn't just for shopping anymore. Over the past several months, the outlet mall and its immediate neighbors have added a whole new lineup of places to eat, play, and blow off some steam.
Here are the main details:
La Crep'n Go, Ciccio's Pasta, and Pika Park are already open inside the mall – sweet and savory crepes, fresh-made Italian, and a collectibles-and-trading-card shop for the hobbyists in the family.
iSmash opened in May right next door (620 Katy Fort Bend Rd.) with rage rooms, axe throwing, and glow-in-the-dark splatter paint – locally owned, with parties and group outings, and age-appropriate options starting at 3 for paint.
P.F. Chang's is on the way this fall, moving into a ~6,820-sq-ft space with a covered patio after a $3.75M build-out.
Melt N Dip, a Belgian-chocolate dessert café, is also in the pipeline.
Whether you're after a family dinner, a birthday idea, or somewhere to smash a stack of plates after a long week, Katy Mills has a fresh reason for a visit.

A Katy original, 30 years in the making
Long before Katy's restaurant scene exploded, Texas Borders Bar & Grill was already feeding the neighborhood. Founded in 1996 by New Orleans native Kellie Messer, this family-owned spot is celebrating 30 years of Cajun-meets-Tex-Mex comfort – and it's still very much a local gathering place.
Here's what to know:
Three decades, one family. What started as a single Katy restaurant has grown into three locations across Katy and Richmond, still family-run.
The food: gumbo, crawfish boils, shrimp boils, burgers, quesadillas, and Tex-Mex favorites – hearty, unpretentious, and made to linger over.
More than a meal: live music, kids' events, and wine and whiskey tastings make it a hangout, not just a dinner stop.
Where to find it: the newest location anchors Cane Island (2100 Cane Island Pkwy.), alongside the longtime Pin Oak Road spot.
If you've never made it a regular, consider this your reminder – a homegrown Katy classic that's been getting it right for 30 years. 🍤
