The backpacks are out, the carpool lanes are packed again, and – right on cue – Katy ISD just got the state's official gold star for the third year running. It's the kind of week that makes you feel a little smug about where you live, and honestly, we'll take it. Add a shiny "new" city park to explore and a Little Italy that half the town keeps texting each other about, and August is going out strong.
As mentioned last week, some family medical issues have made the events section this week a little lighter than I’d normally like. Things are improving and so should be able to be back to normal next week, thanks for your patience!

City News
Katy ISD is Texas's top-rated large district – again.
The Texas Education Agency dropped its 2025–26 A-F accountability ratings on Aug. 14, and Katy ISD once again came out on top of every large district in the state. The district pulled a B/88 overall – same score as last year – but it's the ranking that's the story: #1 among Texas's biggest districts, and the third straight year Katy has landed a B.
Here's what to know:
42 individual campuses earned an A rating – the second-highest raw count in Texas, behind only HISD (which has far more campuses to work with).
72 of 78 KISD schools landed a C or better.
This is Katy ISD's third consecutive B rating, so the district is holding a very steady line even as it keeps growing.
Ratings dropped just two days after the district welcomed ~90,000 students and 14,000 staff back on Aug. 12 for the new school year.
Statewide, 459 campuses across 14 Texas districts earned A ratings this cycle – Katy's slice of that is disproportionately large for a district its size.
For homeowners, it's one more line item on the "why we moved here" list. For parents, it's the answer to the question you were probably going to ask at the first PTA meeting anyway.

City Updates
Katy City Park's makeover is finished – and open for reservations.
If you haven't been by Katy City Park (5850 Franz Rd) lately, it's worth a look. The city wrapped a $2.36 million renovation this summer and held the ribbon-cutting back in June – and the new field is now open to book.
What's new:
A full-size synthetic turf field, striped for football and soccer, with new goals, goalposts, and bleachers.
A programmable LED lighting system with hydraulic poles that lower for storms or maintenance – meaning practices can run well past dark.
Pickleball lines added to two existing tennis courts (a compromise after community pushback on a plan to replace the tennis courts entirely).
Better drainage and new sidewalks throughout.
Field reservations opened July 1 – a nice option for youth sports coaches hunting for practice space, and a friendlier surface for anyone who's been playing on tired grass.
Local Restaurant Spotlight 🍽️
Little Italy: fine-dining technique, Sunday-dinner warmth.
If you haven't made it to Little Italy on the Katy Freeway yet, it's worth the stop. Chef Alfredo Mojica and his wife Christina opened it in late 2024 as the follow-up to their popular Houston spot, Amore Italian – and the goal from day one was to make Katy feel like "Sunday dinner at someone's house."
Here's what to know:
The kitchen is open, and the centerpiece is a gold-tiled wood-burning oven turning out 12 varieties of pizza.
Handmade pastas – slow-braised lamb, seafood, and a black-truffle risotto that keeps regulars coming back.
Chef Alfredo brings 30+ years of Italian kitchen experience to the room.
Casual-elegant, average check around $30, dinner nightly plus lunch.
