Fulshear gets its first real pitch for a downtown

Fast-growing Fulshear has plenty of rooftops and plenty of traffic — but not much of a "downtown." That could change. A developer has pitched a $520 million district called Fulshear Town Square near FM 359, and City Council got its first look on Oct. 20.

Here's what to know:

  • The plan calls for a walkable district with a 170-room hotel, a convention center, a sports complex, restaurants, shops, offices, and apartments on two properties near FM 359.

  • It would be funded through Fulshear's existing management district, a TIRZ (a zone that uses future tax growth to pay for projects), and city grant agreements — and backers say it would not raise property taxes for current residents.

  • The developer projects about $500,000 a year in new tax revenue from land that brings in very little today.

  • Council took no action. Staff will dig into the financials, legal questions, and who carries the risk before it comes back — and no return date is set yet.

  • One wrinkle: a proposed battery-storage piece isn't allowed under current zoning.

As one council member put it, there are "more questions than answers" right now. But it's the biggest swing yet at giving Fulshear a real town center — and residents will get a chance to weigh in when it returns to a Council agenda.

City Updates

There are robots cleaning Katy ISD floors every night

Short about 100 custodians, Katy ISD did something very 2026 about it: it spent roughly $1 million on autonomous cleaning robots. They're already humming away at 17 campuses after the final bell.

Here's what to know:

  • The robots cost about $30,000 each and scrub hard floors and vacuum carpet for eight hours every night after school.

  • They're at 17 schools so far; about 70 more could get them if this year's pilot goes well.

  • The district says they're there to help, not replace, staff: "This is not about taking jobs."

  • Katy ISD is still hiring custodians — the robots are a stopgap, not a substitute.

It's a glimpse at how a fast-growing district keeps about 90 campuses clean when it can't hire fast enough.

Local Restaurant Spotlight 🍽️

Ephesus Mediterranean Grill

Tucked into a strip on S. Mason Road, Ephesus has been quietly doing scratch-made Turkish and Mediterranean cooking with halal meats for years. If your dinner rotation is heavy on the usual suspects, this is your change of pace.

Here's what to know:

  • The stuffed cabbage rolls (lamb, rice, and herbs stewed in tomato sauce, served with yogurt) are the standout.

  • Kebab fans go for the Iskender — thin grilled lamb over pita with tomato sauce and yogurt — or the Ephesus Mixed Grill to try a little of everything.

  • The restaurant says all its meat is halal.

  • Save room for baklava or künefe.
